Soil is the foundation of global food security. Preserving this non-renewable natural resource is essential to ensure the planet’s prosperity.
The maintenance of soil fertility in the pasture ecosystem is much more complex than in other agricultural ecosystems. Understanding the biological principles that govern the construction and maintenance of soil fertility in this ecosystem is essential for the implementation of good management practices that promote its efficient use. In this text, the importance of management strategies that contribute to the construction of soil fertility under pastures and the direct and indirect ways of monitoring this fertility are treated, in a simple and practical way.
This work represents an important contribution by Embrapa Amazônia Oriental to guide technicians and rural producers in planning
and the use of management practices that translate into more sustainable pastures, thus contributing to increased productivity in the field and the preservation of the environment.
